I was born in what is now the McClain County Historical Museum, which was the Purcell Hospital back in 1951. I attended Purcell schools grades 1 thru 12 and graduated from Purcell High School in 1970. I moved all the way to Norman in 1971 to attend the University of Oklahoma, where I graduated in 1974 with a BA in Business. I then moved back to Purcell and have been here ever since. In 2000, I completed the Graduate School of Banking at SMU. When I was younger, I loved playing basketball. Now I attend the OU football and basketball games. I also love to travel.
I guess you could say that McClain Bank kind of selected me. At least one member of the Sherman Family has worked at the Bank since the 1930s, when my father came to work here. The Sherman Family gained majority ownership in the early 80s. I began working in bookkeeping when I was in high school and became a teller during college. After college graduation, I started working full-time, becoming Cashier in 1975, Vice President in 1984, Executive Vice President in 1995 and President in 2002.
The best part of banking for me is the relationships built in the community. I enjoy working with civic clubs and organizations that want to improve our community. You really get to know people when you work with them on community projects. I also like that every day is different in banking. You never know what to expect.
